Zoey Sable Female German Shepherd 1998 to July 5 2009

Zoey and I shared a year together. She was already 10 years old when she came into my life. A friend called me and said they had a female German shepherd that was pulled from a kill shelter and needed a new home. She asked if I be interested. I said yes I can help. So we setup a day to meet a week later.

Zoey was a beautiful sable shepherd and very out going. She loved to bark at any and everything. She was a sweet girl. I brought her home to meet Sam and Jerry Lee who was 4 months. Sam could care less, he just ignored her. But Jerry Lee thought she was great as she would play with him.

For being 10 years old Zoey was active and did not show her age. Jerry Lee and Zoey played together and she kept him on his toes and would not take any bull from him.

About 8 months after getting Zoey she developed mammary tumor in one of her nipples. I took her to the vet and he said to just keep an eye on it and to watch for signs of it getting bigger or hurting her. I took Zoey once a month to have the vet check the mammary tumor. Zoey had started limping a little. I was upstairs and she had started to follow me and she stumbled and fell. Her foot was bleeding and her toe did not look right. I took her to the vet and he said she had bone cancer and showed me how her toe had opened up and how deep and abnormal it was. Her mammary tumor had also started getting bigger. Zoey was now 11 years old and surgery was not an option. I was really at a loss as we only were able to spend a year together, but in that year we both gave each other love and companionship. The vet said with her foot in bad shape and with the mammary tumor it might be best to just say good bye. I was really hoping we have more time together, but I saved her life and gave her a second chance at life for an additional year but age caught up with her and I had to let her go.
